Sang Rem

State: Oklahoma
Country of Origin: Burma/Myanmar
Sang Rem is the Refugee Congress Delegate for Oklahoma. She came to United States as resettled refugee from Burma/Myanmar when she was 15 years old.
Sang has three brothers and two sisters. Her family came to the United States through the Malaysia UN office and did not speak any English when they arrived.
She took ELL classes, graduated high school when she was 21 years old and went on to earn a Child Development degree. She is currently working full time with a non-profit organization called the Spero Project, which serves resettled refugees by connecting them to people, resources and learning opportunities.
“Because I have experienced the refugee journey myself, I am committed to ensuring that every family and individual has access to the relationships, resources and learning opportunities that help them thrive in new country. We are better together,” Sang says.
