LGBTI Caucus

The aim of our Tuesday’s meeting in Miami was to identify the available resources to respond to LGBTI Refugee employment and housing needs, asylum applications, friendly communities, churches and other basic needs of newly arriving LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers. We encouraged the local LGBTQ community in South Florida to extend their services to LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers

Among the participants were Jennifer Weiss and Michelle Carrera (International Rescue Committee), Sabine Balmir Derenoncourt

Luzau meet with Senator Barbara Mikulski’s office and discussed the need to support Syrian and Iraqi refugees resettlement. The office told him they will continue to support the resettlement of all refugees in the Unites States and would like to see them pass more backgrounds check prior to their resettlement to the US.

Also Luzau is going to meet with Bill Van Home, the Chief Counsel for Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (M-MD) for another meeting on Syrian and Iraqi refugees. He has also contacted his governor’s office and waiting to hear back from them.
