Umesh Acharya

State: Vermont
Arrival in the US: 2012
Umesh Acharya is the Refugee Congress Delegate for Vermont.
Growing up in a refugee camp in Nepal, Umesh understood the feeling of being considered “less than” others.
Soon after his arrival in the U.S. in 2012, Umesh started advocating for health equity and social justice. He worked for a local school district as their Registrar/Guidance Secretary and also served as the Teen Director for a community center. He strongly believes in the power of youth to invite/initiate social changes and supports having youth voices at the decision-making table.
Umesh is an advocate for the mental health and wellbeing of former refugees and immigrants and understands that it takes a community to commit to provide resources and support necessary for the promotion of the overall wellbeing of its residents.
He calls Vermont home and feels like it is his responsibility to give to the community and contribute towards the overall wellbeing of his community.
